MASTERING THE ART OF SUCCESSFUL AGING - Arizona Republic, October 2013
Who would not want to be 91 years old and attending symphony concerts, traveling to Scotland, spending time with family, socializing with friends and still living a fully independent life? This is not a fairytale but rather the very real life of Frances Loeber, a 91 year old Scottsdale resident. For years now, Frances has been working with Macrotherapy; a Scottsdale based integrative health and medical facility, and the results from her customized program are exciting. “People view age as a limitation, but age is not the source of limitation. The source is the lack of functionality,” stated Jason Fairbanks, one of the co-owners of Macrotherapy. Before working with Macrotherapy, Frances used to be someone who dealt with musculoskeletal pain. She has suffered from back, hip and knee pain and her hands were so painful she was
concerned that she would no longer be able to turn the keys on in her car, which would prohibit her from continuing to drive. “I am so thankful for all the help that I have received at Macrotherapy,”said Loeber. Musculoskeletal disorders and diseases are the leading cause of disability in the United States and account for more than one-half of all chronic conditions in people over 50 years of age. When speaking with the professionals at Macrotherapy, you become encouraged by their passion to make a difference for people. They will tell you that so many people deal with health challenges that are similar to Frances. Annie Fairbanks, a corrective exercise specialist, said, “Muscle mass is the biggest predictor of longevity and so many people become deconditioned to the point that
they cannot even get up from the floor.” However, Frances is an example of what quality of life is possible for people and of the transformation that can occur from participating in Macrotherapy’s systems. Jerry Sanstead, co-owner of Macrotherapy, shared some feelings about Frances’ journey, “Frances has worked with Macrotherapy for over 6 years and it has been incredible to witness someone’s life improving with age; to be in her 80’s and now 90’s continuing to become stronger and healthier each day has been impressive.” The operators of Macrotherapy promote the possibility of success at any age and they have services to cater to all the “different seasons” of life. Macrotherapy also accepts MEDICARE, the government health insurance plan for people over 65.
