FREEDOM FROM CHRONIC PAIN AND LIVING A LIFE SHE LOVES - Arizona Republic, June 2016
Janice Hill is a 74-year-old Cave Creek resident who was once so limited by pain that she could no longer work and she and her husband Jim had to sell their business. Now, years later, Janice has transformed into someone who has overcome her chronic pain and disability and is able to deadlift more than her age. Before beginning her Macrotherapy program, Janice’s quality of life was declining each year and she was slowly losing her independence. Loss of independence due to chronic pain is a fear for many people. Statistically lower back pain is the most common source of pain affecting 80% of Americans at some point in their life. Dr. Annie Fairbanks, of Macrotherapy, shares that, “Any forward posture that causes the head to be in front of the shoulder creates 10 pounds of pressure on the lower back.” The underlying cause of many pain syndromes is simply muscular and skeletal imbalance, which is often a combination of deconditioning and compensation that causes the body to move ineffectively. “By introducing a new neuro-muscular pattern, anyone can improve their function and decrease the inflammatory response that contributes to pain,” says Dr. Fairbanks.
Janice will tell you that she now feels younger and has a new found freedom to fully embrace her life with her husband Jim and their passion for books. After years of owning a book store with a café, there was something missing for Janice when her pain started to take control of her life. According to Janice, “My books are like old friends” and no one wants to be away from old friends. Her therapy program has allowed Janice to master her a new bending and lifting pattern, which has allowed her the opportunity to reconnect with the books she loves. “I don’t want to get any stronger or I will have to do ALL the lifting” Janice now jokes. Macrotherapy’s creates transformative opportunities for people by providing a complete functional evaluation that identifies muscle imbalances, weak and unstable areas, as well as areas of blood and oxygen stagnation that contribute to chronic pain.
The operators of Macrotherapy promote the possibility of quality function at any age and their services specifically address chronic pain.
